Buckeye Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Buckeye Beer Milwaukee Issue

The Buckeye Premium Beer 12 oz tab top can issued by the Miller Brewing Company represents a noteworthy transitional chapter in American brewing history. While Buckeye Beer originated in Toledo, Ohio, under the historic Buckeye Brewing Company, industry consolidation led to the brand's acquisition by Meister Brau before the Miller Brewing Company subsequently purchased the label assets.

Following that acquisition, Miller transferred packaging and production of Buckeye Beer to its primary facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Because production of this regional Ohio legacy brand under Miller management was short-lived, cans bearing the Milwaukee mandatory text document the late-era absorption of regional labels by major national brewing companies.

Graphic Design and Markings

The container displays Buckeye's traditional heraldic branding and bold typography adapted to standard 12-ounce packaging. The legal mandatory text identifies the Miller Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Production runs also feature trade union markings, including a "Union Made" caption printed along the seam line.

Collector Variations and Significance

Breweriana collectors appreciate this release as a cross-regional crossover piece connecting Ohio brewing heritage directly with Milwaukee brewing history. Known variations exist across production runs, featuring subtle differences in seam text alignment, legal notices, and container construction. Due to its brief canning lifespan compared to Miller's high-volume domestic flagships, this Milwaukee-brewed Buckeye issue remains a desirable addition for collectors specializing in Miller issues and midwestern regional brewing history.
