Buckhorn Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Olympia's Buckhorn Tab Top Can

The 12-ounce Buckhorn Beer tab top can represents a notable chapter in Pacific Northwest breweriana, tied directly to the Olympia Brewing Company of Olympia, Washington. Originally connected to the Theo. Hamm Brewing Company, the Buckhorn label became part of Olympia's regional portfolio following corporate acquisitions during the mid-1970s.

Label Art and Branding

The front of the can features bold, western-styled typography paired with the recognizable stag motif associated with the Buckhorn name. Many issues highlight commemorative phrasing such as "In the Tradition of Our World Famous Buckhorn Bar" along the label border. The vivid lithography and crisp color contrasts make it a visually prominent display piece in any regional brewery collection.

Manufacturing and Variations

Manufactured primarily in all-aluminum formats by major container fabricators such as American Can Company, the Buckhorn tab top can exhibits several distinct production variations. Depending on when and where the can was filled, the mandatory brewer statement on the side panel may list Olympia, Washington alone, or include dual-city credits citing both Olympia and St. Paul, Minnesota. Minor differences can also be observed in rim design, manufacturer logos, metric measurement listings, and mandatory canning text across various production runs.

Historical Significance

For collectors specializing in Washington State beer history or the extensive lineage of the Olympia Brewing Company, this tab top can stands as an authentic artifact of brewery consolidation and brand longevity in late twentieth-century American brewing.
