Budweiser Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Newark Budweiser Tab Top Can

Manufactured at Anheuser-Busch's East Coast brewing facility in Newark, New Jersey, this 12-ounce Budweiser Lager Beer tab top can represents a notable era in American breweriana packaging. The Newark plant, situated strategically along the Route 1 and 9 corridor, served as the primary production hub for the densely populated Northeast market and operated as a key counterpart to the company's flagship St. Louis headquarters.

The exterior showcases Budweiser's classic red, white, and blue heraldic layout, anchored by the Anheuser-Busch "A and Eagle" trademark crest, Victorian-style scrollwork, and the historic brewer's guarantee text across the face.

For collectors, a primary area of focus centers on the mandatory brewery statements printed along the side panels. As Anheuser-Busch expanded its national footprint, the mandatory city listings on packaging evolved over time. Cans displaying the Newark location appear in various mandatory text configurations alongside other regional hub cities, such as St. Louis, Los Angeles, Tampa, Houston, and Columbus. Enthusiasts actively study these mandatory text variations to trace the geographic growth of Anheuser-Busch's packaging network.

Beyond side panel variations, collectors categorize these cans by container construction and manufacturing markings. Production spanned both three-piece soldered steel bodies and drawn aluminum containers. These cans carry maker stamps from prominent suppliers of the era, including the American Can Company, Continental Can Company, and Crown Cork & Seal. Additionally, certain canning batches feature decorative factory embossing on the pull tab itself, displaying miniature eagle or crown emblems.
