Budweiser Lager Beer 16 Oz Insert Top Can

Budweiser 16 Oz Insert Top Can

The Budweiser Lager Beer 16 Oz Insert Top Can represents an important era in the packaging history of Anheuser-Busch, based in St. Louis, Missouri. While standard 12-ounce containers were the high-volume staple of the industry, Anheuser-Busch produced these larger 16-ounce "pint" cans to satisfy market demand for larger single-serve offerings.

Design and Lithography

The can showcases the classic Budweiser brand imagery, anchored by the Anheuser-Busch "A and Eagle" insignia, the signature red-and-white shield motif, and the brand's traditional script and beechwood aging statement. The taller steel can profile provided ample vertical space to display the full label art alongside the prominent 16-ounce volume designation.

Production and Variations

During the industry's shift toward self-opening lids, Anheuser-Busch utilized insert tops across select runs of its 16-ounce containers. Because Anheuser-Busch operated multiple regional facilities across the United States—including operations in St. Louis, Newark, and Los Angeles—cans from this generation feature distinct mandatory location listings, brewery statements, and slight graphic differences depending on where they were filled. Collectors also recognize minor variations in text spacing, trademark phrasing, and lid stamping across different manufacturing runs.

Collector Significance

Within the breweriana collecting community, 16-ounce insert top cans from major national breweries are noticeably harder to acquire than standard-capacity cans or later wide-release tab variations. Due to the relatively brief manufacturing window for insert tops on large-format containers, this can remains a notable historical piece representing mid-century American canning development and Anheuser-Busch's national distribution network.
