Budweiser Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Budweiser Flat Top Heritage

The Budweiser Lager Beer flat top can produced by Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis, Missouri, stands as a quintessential artifact of twentieth-century canned breweriana. Manufactured by the American Can Company, this container reflects the transition of America's largest brewing enterprise toward modern metal packaging for its flagship lager.

Early graphic layouts showcased a metallic lithographed background anchored by the iconic Anheuser-Busch trademark eagle perched within the letter "A" and framed by traditional serif typography. The side panels carried text highlighting the brewery's quality creed and ingredients before transitioning into the distinctive split-label presentation designed to mirror Budweiser's classic bottle branding.

Collectors distinguish several variations across production runs, differentiated primarily by evolving regulatory text, manufacturer markings, and corporate expansion. Earlier issues carry the mandatory "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement, whereas later runs reflect federal statutory revisions with updated labeling. Additional variations display differences in patent verbiage, the presence or placement of the "Keglined" trademark insignia, side-panel border rules, and the progressive addition of new branch brewery cities beneath the mandatory text as Anheuser-Busch expanded its nationwide footprint.

Because of the brand's national prominence and the graphic timeline preserved in its lithography, the Budweiser flat top remains a cornerstone piece for American canned breweriana enthusiasts.
