Produced at the main St. Louis facility, these test cans served as developmental mockups and trial packages used to evaluate visual design, shelf presence, and typography before full-scale commercial distribution.

Brand Development and Design

During the developmental phase of the brand, the growing market shift toward low-calorie offerings prompted Anheuser-Busch to develop a direct counterpart to its flagship lager. While preparing for release, packaging and marketing teams experimented with distinct graphic treatments. The Budweiser Light Beer test can features transitional branding that balances classic Anheuser-Busch heraldry—such as traditional script and crest motifs—with modern design accents tailored for a lighter beer alternative.
