Burger Ale 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Cincinnati's Iconic Burger Ale Can

Produced by the Burger Brewing Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Burger Ale 12 oz tab top can stands as an enduring emblem of the Queen City's rich brewing heritage. Originally founded as a malting business by brothers Charles and Louis Burger, the company transitioned to commercial brewing following the repeal of Prohibition and rapidly expanded to become one of the most prominent regional breweries in the Midwest.

The Burger brand built deep cultural ties throughout southwestern Ohio through high-profile sports sponsorships, famously partnering with Cincinnati Reds broadcasts at Crosley Field alongside legendary radio voice Waite Hoyt, as well as serving as an inaugural sponsor for the Cincinnati Bengals football franchise.

The visual presentation of the Burger Ale tab top features classic mid-century graphic styling, centered around the recognizable Burger script lettering, bold ale identifiers, and vibrant trim elements that distinguished it from the brewery's standard lager packaging. Several variations exist across manufacturing runs, including metallic versus enameled finishes, subtle revisions to mandatory brewery text, and markings from different container manufacturers such as the American Can Company and Continental Can Company.

For breweriana collectors focused on Ohio brewing history, this can captures a pivotal era of independent Cincinnati packaging before production transitioned following the company's acquisition by rival local brewer Hudepohl.
