Burger Ale 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Burger Ale Tab Top Overview

The Burger Ale 12 Oz Tab Top Can represents a key piece of Midwestern brewing heritage produced by the Burger Brewing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. Originating from the Burger Brothers Malting Company, which was established in the late nineteenth century, Burger transitioned into full-scale brewing following the repeal of Prohibition and grew into one of the most recognized regional beverage producers in the Ohio Valley.

Graphic Design and Visual Profile

The can features the classic Burger typography and branding that defined the company's mid-century packaging portfolio. Distinguishable from the brewery's standard lager offerings, the ale cans featured distinct color schemes—often incorporating metallic backgrounds, deep green or red accents, and traditional script lettering to identify the ale line. The layout prominently displays the Cincinnati origin along with standard brewery mandatories and volume statements.

Manufacturing and Variations

Burger utilized major container manufacturers, including the Continental Can Company, to produce its canning inventory. Known variations exist across production runs, displaying subtle differences in manufacturer marks, statutory text layouts, metallic base finishes, and lid stampings.

Brand Legacy in Cincinnati

Burger Brewing Company maintained a massive regional footprint, deeply intertwined with local culture and sports through extensive marketing and its long-standing sponsorship of Cincinnati Reds baseball broadcasts. While the original independent brewery ceased operations in the 1970s before being acquired by Hudepohl, cans from the Burger lineup remain prominent collector items documenting the Queen City's rich brewing history.
