Burger Sparkling Ale 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Burger Sparkling Ale Zip Top Can

The Burger Sparkling Ale 12 oz can represents a classic mid-century offering from the Burger Brewing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. Tracing its corporate roots back to late nineteenth-century malting operations run by the Burger family, the company emerged as one of the Queen City's major brewing powerhouses following the repeal of Prohibition.

While Burger gained widespread regional fame through its flagship lager and high-profile sponsorships—particularly its celebrated association with Cincinnati Reds baseball broadcasts—the brewery also maintained a dedicated following for its specialty ales. The Sparkling Ale label enjoyed sustained production across multiple packaging transitions, carrying the brand through early can formats and into the self-opening era.

Can Design and Collector Appeal

For breweriana collectors, Burger Sparkling Ale stands out for its bold graphics and period-specific typography. The can design prominently features the distinctive Burger brand name alongside crisp "Sparkling Ale" lettering, often accented by metallic trim and traditional brewery heraldry. Known variations exist from different production batches, featuring subtle discrepancies in manufacturer marks, mandatory brewery text placement, and color toning.

Because regional ales were generally produced in smaller volumes than standard American lagers during this era, fewer Sparkling Ale cans were distributed and saved compared to the brewery's flagship lines. As a result, this can remains a sought-after piece for Ohio breweriana enthusiasts and regional Cincinnati brewery collectors.
