Burgermeister Genuine Draft 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Burgermeister Genuine Draft Can

The Burgermeister Genuine Draft 12 Oz Tab Top Can is a classic representation of Northern California's regional brewing heritage. Affectionately known to generations of West Coast consumers simply as "Burgie", the Burgermeister label was a dominant fixture throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding western markets.

Produced under the Burgermeister name in San Francisco, California, this can highlights the industry-wide marketing push of its era toward packaging "Genuine Draft" beer for retail sale. The can face showcases the distinguished Burgermeister brand typography alongside bold draft-beer callouts, reflecting the clean commercial graphic style popularized by mid-century packaging designers.

The story of the brewery behind this can mirrors the postwar consolidation of the American brewing industry. Originating at the historic brewery facility on 10th Street in San Francisco, the Burgermeister brand transitioned through multiple corporate ownership changes over the years, including operations under the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company and later Falstaff. Cans specifically featuring the San Francisco mandatory brewery statement remain particularly celebrated among regional breweriana enthusiasts due to the deep historical ties between the brand and the city's industrial brewing quarter.

Among breweriana collectors, this can is noted for several production variations that emerged over the course of its run. Minor shifts in mandatory corporate wording, copyright placements, and manufacturing marks provide subtle differences that attract dedicated label collectors. It stands as an important artifact of mid-century California brewing and the storied legacy of San Francisco's native beer brands.
