Canadian Ace Premium Beer Can

The Canadian Ace brand carries one of the most storied backgrounds in American brewing history. Originating with Chicago's Manhattan Brewing Company—a brewery widely noted for its Prohibition-era ties to Johnny Torrio and Lou Greenberg—the label was rebranded as Canadian Ace to modernize the company's identity following the repeal era. After the Chicago facility eventually ceased operations, the brand was acquired and revived by the Eastern Brewing Corporation of Hammonton, New Jersey.

Eastern Brewing Corporation frequently used various trade names and "doing business as" subsidiaries on their packaging, including the Waukee Brewing Company designation printed on this can. Operating out of Hammonton, Eastern Brewing became well known among breweriana historians for producing an extensive lineup of budget-friendly labels, legacy regional brands, and contract brews.

The can design retains the classic Canadian Ace iconography, centered around a prominent playing-card ace motif set against bold brand lettering. For collectors of New Jersey breweriana and contract brewing history, this can represents an intriguing transitional era where historic Midwestern beer labels were kept alive by East Coast contract facilities. Variations exist among Hammonton-issued Canadian Ace cans, featuring subtle differences in brewery mandatory text, state tax notices, and metallic background finishes.
