Canadian Ace Extra Pale Brand Ale Pint Can

Chicago King-Size Extra Pale Ale

The Canadian Ace Extra Pale Brand Ale pint can stands as a prominent piece of Chicago packaging history. Originating from the South Side brewery formerly known as the Manhattan Brewing Company—a facility known for its storied past following Prohibition, including ties to prominent figure Lou Greenberg—the company adopted the Canadian Ace moniker to match its flagship label.

During the mid-twentieth-century packaging boom, Canadian Ace developed into one of the most active brewing and canning operations in the Midwest. Alongside extensive contract packaging for various regional labels, the plant produced large runs of its proprietary brands. The sixteen-ounce pint format was marketed as a "King Size" serving, offering consumers a larger capacity alternative to standard twelve-ounce containers.

The graphic presentation of the pint can features bold mid-century typography complemented by signature Canadian Ace iconography, including traditional winged insignia and shield elements. Prominent "Extra Pale" and "King Size" labeling clearly demarcates the ale classification and large-format volume. Variations exist across production runs, featuring differences in side-panel text layout, mandatory brewery disclosures, and accent coloring on the lettering.

For collectors of large-format cans and Midwestern brewing heritage, this pint can remains a sought-after piece representing the vibrant era of post-war Chicago beer canning.
