Carling's Red Cap Ale Cone Top Can

Carling's Red Cap Ale Cone Top

The Carling's Red Cap Ale cone top can from the Brewing Corporation of America represents a notable chapter in mid-century brewing history. Originating from Cleveland, Ohio, the can was filled at the historic Quincy Avenue facility—a site that famously served as an assembly plant for the Peerless Motor Car Company before being converted into a major brewery following the repeal of Prohibition.

The can design prominently showcases the classic red jockey cap insignia, an emblem carried over from Carling's Canadian origins. The artwork balances clean typography with bold contrasting colors, centering on the trademark cap illustration that made the brand easily identifiable on retail shelves across the country.

For collectors of breweriana, this packaging is significant due to its industrial background and historical revisions. During World War II, olive drab variants were manufactured for military rations and overseas deployment. In addition to wartime issues, multiple civilian variations exist, distinguished by slight changes in mandatory tax statements, side-panel text, and distributor references issued before the business reorganized under the Carling Brewing Company name. These differences make the Brewing Corporation of America cone tops a popular subject of study and acquisition among can enthusiasts.
