Carlsbrau Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Classic Chicago Carlsbrau Flat Top

The Carlsbrau Lager Beer flat top can is a notable artifact of Chicago's brewing landscape, manufactured for the Pilsen Brewing Company in Chicago, Illinois. Following the repeal of Prohibition, the Pilsen Brewing Company produced several regional labels, with Carlsbrau serving as one of its recognizable local offerings.

Among breweriana collectors, the Carlsbrau flat top holds a reputation as a sought-after Chicago sleeper. Cans tied to the Pilsen Brewing Company are particularly prized due to the brewery's relatively modest production volume compared to larger industrial contemporaries in the city. The historic facility operated for decades on Chicago's Southwest Side before the company was acquired by Canadian Ace.

The can design features classic mid-century aesthetic details, displaying bold Carlsbrau typography framed by traditional crest work and clear Chicago mandatory brewery markings. Minor variations exist across different manufacturing runs, showcasing subtle differences in side-panel text and metallic background finishes.

Because regional cans from independent Chicago breweries were distributed primarily across local markets, surviving Carlsbrau flat tops remain distinguished additions to Midwestern breweriana collections.
