Champagne Velvet Beer 12 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can

Atlantic Champagne Velvet 12 Oz Can

The Champagne Velvet Beer 12-ounce zip/tab top can issued by the Atlantic Brewing Company represents a notable chapter in mid-century Midwestern brewing history. Originally developed in Indiana by the Terre Haute Brewing Company, the storied brand known for its slogan, "The Beer with the Million Dollar Flavor," saw its production expand across regional breweries due to mid-century acquisitions and contract brewing.

Atlantic Brewing Company, located on North Fullerton Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, canned Champagne Velvet during the packaging evolution of the 1960s, transitioning from traditional flat top cans to self-opening tab top formats.

Design and Collectibility

The can's graphic design preserves the historic Champagne Velvet script and heraldic motifs, highlighted by prominent branding and the Atlantic Brewing Co. Chicago mandatory text. This distinguishes it from earlier Indiana productions and later versions packaged by subsequent brewing conglomerates.

Among breweriana collectors, Atlantic-brewed Champagne Velvet tab tops are sought after as artifacts of Chicago's post-prohibition industrial brewing era. Known variations exist among surviving examples, displaying subtle differences in mandatory text arrangement, canning manufacturer marks, and lid seam specifications. Because Atlantic Brewing ceased operations in the mid-1960s, these zip and tab top cans mark the final Chicago-produced iterations of the historic label.
