Chief Oshkosh Beer 12 Oz Tab/Insert Top Can

Chief Oshkosh Tab Top Overview

The Chief Oshkosh Beer 12 Oz tab and insert top can is an enduring artifact of Wisconsin brewing heritage from the Oshkosh Brewing Company of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Formed through the merger of three regional breweries—Brooklyn Brewery, Union Brewery, and Gambrinus Brewery—the Oshkosh Brewing Company established Chief Oshkosh as its premier flagship brand. Named after the respected Menominee leader, the label grew into the city's most widely recognized and top-selling beer.

The visual presentation on this straight-steel can highlights the classic portrait of Chief Oshkosh, often accompanied by the regional slogan "Brewed on the Shores of Beautiful Lake Winnebago". This container style represents the brewery's packaging lineup from the era before the Oshkosh Brewing Company ceased operations and transferred the brand rights to the neighboring Peoples Brewing Company in the early 1970s.

For breweriana collectors, known variations of this can exist, displaying differences in lid stampings, mandatory text arrangements, and manufacturing seam constructions.
