Chief Oshkosh Pilsener Beer Crowntainer

Chief Oshkosh Crowntainer History

The Chief Oshkosh Pilsener Beer Crowntainer stands as one of the most celebrated and historic items in American breweriana collecting. Produced for the Oshkosh Brewing Company of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the container features prominent graphics depicting Menominee leader Chief Oshkosh in a feathered headdress, set alongside bold lettering and mid-century brewery trade dress.

The can holds an illustrious position in collector history. A white-background prototype variation made headlines across the collecting community when it fetched a record auction price of over $111,000, placing it among the most valuable beer cans in the world. While the silver-bodied design served as the regular production release distributed throughout regional markets, examples of any variation remain fiercely sought after.

Known variations exist across background colors and minor text attributes, reflecting the packaging experiments conducted by the brewery during the post-war era before shifting to other can formats. Today, the Chief Oshkosh can remains a centerpiece showcase item for Midwestern breweriana enthusiasts and premier collections nationwide.
