Chief Oshkosh Pilsener Beer Flat Top Can

Chief Oshkosh Pilsener Flat Top

Produced by the Oshkosh Brewing Company of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the Chief Oshkosh Pilsener Beer flat top represents a notable chapter in Midwestern breweriana history. The can prominently displays the portrait of Chief Oshkosh, the 19th-century Menominee leader and namesake of both the city and the brewery's flagship brand. It also features the brewery's recognizable regional slogan, "Brewed on the Shores of Beautiful Lake Winnebago".

Oshkosh Brewing Company transitioned to flat tops after earlier packaging runs with crowntainers and cone tops, adopting the format following the installation of an in-house canning line during the mid-1950s. The visual layout remains celebrated among collectors for its bold mid-century typography, distinct color blocking, and classic brand iconography.

Collectors document multiple variations of this flat top across different manufacturing batches, featuring slight differences in metallic finishes, color shading, and side-panel mandatory text placements. Following the eventual closure of the Oshkosh Brewing Company in the early 1970s, Chief Oshkosh cans have become enduring keepsakes of Wisconsin's regional brewing legacy.
