Colt 45 16 Oz Miami Tab Top Can

The Colt 45 Malt Liquor 16 Oz Tab Top Can produced by The National Brewing Co. of Baltimore, Maryland at its Miami, Florida plant represents an iconic chapter in mid-century American malt liquor packaging. When National Brewing introduced Colt 45 to the market, it disrupted a sector previously dominated by Country Club malt liquor. The label prominently featured the signature kicking horse silhouette alongside horseshoes, iconography designed to symbolize the brand's bold identity and its association with Baltimore's professional football team.

National Brewing Company expanded its production footprint beyond its home base in Baltimore by operating regional breweries across the United States, including facilities in Detroit, Phoenix, and Miami. Cans filled at the Florida facility carry the distinctive manufacturer mandatory text specifying the Miami location alongside Baltimore.

The 16-ounce "tall boy" or "one pint" tab top format was produced to offer consumers a larger single-serve portion during an era of significant growth in the malt liquor segment. In breweriana collecting, Colt 45 tab tops from the Miami facility are studied for their text placement, city listings, and seam markings. Variations exist across production runs, with differences found in can manufacturer factory codes, text alignment around the seam, and whether single or multi-city brewery locations are listed along the mandatory rim.

The combination of the larger one-pint format, recognizable mid-century horse logo, and specific Miami plant designation makes this Colt 45 tab top an enduring staple among malt liquor breweriana collectors.
