Colt Malt Lager 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Colt Malt Lager Zip Top Overview

Produced by the National Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland, the Colt Malt Lager 12 oz can represents a notable chapter in mid-century American malt beverage canning. National Brewing Company was widely recognized for pioneering the Colt brand name, which developed alongside the famous Colt 45 malt beverage line.

The can design features a prominent graphic identity centered around a horseshoe motif and kicking colt imagery, complemented by bold red and blue typography set against a white background. Metallic ink detailing on the horseshoe and lettering borders adds sharp contrast to the lithography.

For breweriana collectors, known variations of this label exist across different distribution channels. Differences among production runs include variations in the mandatory plant and city listings on the side panel—reflecting canning runs across National's regional brewing facilities—as well as subtle differences in accent striping.

As an important piece of the National Brewing Company portfolio, the Colt Malt Lager can holds a recognized place in East Coast breweriana collections and Baltimore brewing history.
