Cook's Goldblume Beer Flat Top Can

Cook's Goldblume Flat Top Can

Cook's Goldblume Beer was the flagship brand of the F. W. Cook Company, produced in Evansville, Indiana. Established in 1853 by Frederick Washington Cook and Jacob Rice, the brewery grew into one of the most prominent regional brewing operations in the Midwest, distributing its products widely throughout the Ohio and Mississippi river valleys.

The Goldblume flat top can features classic mid-century commercial design, prominently displaying the distinguished Goldblume script lettering, Cook's traditional crest, and the company's well-known slogan, "Call For Cook's Beer." The container was manufactured by the Continental Can Company, which supplied packaging to the Evansville packaging lines during the mid-twentieth century.

The can carries notable historical significance tied to Indiana business and sports lore. In 1950, prominent industrialist and Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner Anton "Tony" Hulman Jr. purchased a controlling interest in the F. W. Cook brewery. This acquisition marked an eventful chapter for the Evansville facility, which underwent modernization before labor disputes and fierce national brewery competition brought an end to production in the mid-1950s.

Among breweriana collectors, several variations of this flat top are recognized. Known variations exhibit subtle differences in mandatory side-panel regulatory text, the presence or absence of alcohol statements, and minor differences in can company manufacturer codes. Today, the Cook's Goldblume flat top remains a sought-after staple for collectors of midwestern brewing history.
