Dart Drug Premium Light Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Dart Drug Premium Light Beer

The Dart Drug Premium Light Beer can is a classic example of private-label retail branding. Dart Drug, a prominent discount drugstore and retail chain based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, marketed its own house-brand beer to provide an economical option for its customers.

Brewery History and Production

This specific can was packaged under the Bavarian name in Reading, Pennsylvania, associated with the operations of the Sunshine Brewing Company. Regional retail chains frequently contracted out their beverage production to regional brewing facilities with available capacity. Sunshine Brewing Company produced a variety of proprietary and contract labels for distributor and retailer networks across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Label and Collectibility

The can's graphic layout emphasizes strong retail shelf appeal, featuring prominent "Dart" branding alongside traditional heraldic crest elements typical of store-brand beers of the era. For collectors focused on pharmacy chains, house brands, or Pennsylvania breweriana, this can is an intriguing artifact of mid-Atlantic retail commerce.

Known variations of the Dart Drug label exist from different contract canning partners and revisions to mandatory text, documenting how the retail chain shifted its sourcing among regional facilities.
