Davidson Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Davidson Premium Beer Flat Top

The Davidson Premium Beer flat top can represents a classic piece of East Coast breweriana, produced under the Colonial Brewing Company name in Hammonton, New Jersey. Colonial functioned as a designated trade name utilized by the Eastern Brewing Corporation, a prominent regional facility renowned for bottling and canning an extensive array of contract and proprietary labels.

Brewery Background and Production

Eastern Brewing Corporation frequently used alternate brewery imprints, including Colonial Brewing Co., to distribute distinct labels throughout regional markets. The cans were manufactured by the American Can Company, bearing the company's trademark "Keglined" oval insignia alongside manufacturing plant codes such as those from Hillside, New Jersey.

Design and Label Elements

The graphic presentation of the can showcases clean mid-century styling designed for straightforward shelf visibility. A defining feature of the label copy is the declaration that the beverage was "Brewed Only With Pure Artesian Well Water," a promotional claim spotlighting the groundwater source used by the Hammonton brewing plant.

Variations and Collector Significance

Breweriana collectors actively seek the Davidson label as part of the diverse legacy of New Jersey's contract-brewing era. Known variations exist across different manufacturing runs, showcasing subtle differences in mandatory text placement, canning codes, and border details before the brand eventually transitioned to newer container styles.
