Dobler XXX Amber Ale Flat Top Can

Dobler XXX Amber Ale Flat Top

The Dobler XXX Amber Ale flat top can represents a classic piece of Upstate New York brewing history. Originating from the Dobler Brewing Company of Albany, New York—a regional powerhouse established in 1865 and one of the rare local breweries to survive Prohibition—the brand carried significant heritage in the Hudson Valley brewing scene.

The can's design is centered around the traditional "XXX" designation, a historic brewing symbol originally used in England and early America to signify extra strength and premium quality. The artwork showcases prominent typography displaying "Dobler XXX Amber Ale" alongside bold color blocking and the brewery's Albany, N.Y. mandatory text.

Manufactured primarily with the American Can Company's "Keglined" patent, the can was distributed across regional Northeastern markets. For specialized collectors of regional breweriana, known variations exist across its production run. These variations include slight adjustments in mandatory legal text, minor font adjustments, and differences in canning codes. Following the closure of the Albany facility and subsequent acquisition by Hampden-Harvard Breweries, additional variations were produced showing altered brewery location credits. Today, it remains a quintessential and widely sought-after artifact of Albany's industrial brewing era.
