Drewrys Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Drewrys Chicago 16 Oz Tab Top

The Drewrys Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can represents an era of mid-century Midwestern brewing history from Drewrys Ltd., produced with the Chicago, Illinois brewery line. Drewrys, established with roots tracing back to the late nineteenth century, became a household staple across the Great Lakes region and broader Midwest through substantial multi-facility distribution.

Background and Heritage

Drewrys built widespread regional recognition using distinct branding elements, prominently featuring the slogan "A Famous Name Since 1877" alongside heraldic crests and traditional banner typography. While Drewrys operated major facilities in South Bend, Indiana, cans bearing the Chicago, Illinois mandatory text hold a dedicated place in regional breweriana collections, reflecting the company's distributed manufacturing presence during its peak expansion.

Collector Details and Variations

This one-pint container provided a larger alternative to standard twelve-ounce offerings, catering to consumers seeking full-pint packaging. Among breweriana enthusiasts, variations of the Chicago-labeled sixteen-ounce can are documented. These differences typically appear in the layout of the mandatory text, copyright markings, and minor adjustments to graphic borders.

Additionally, packaging runs involved major container manufacturers of the period, such as the National Can Company and Continental Can Company, which left distinct maker marks along the seam. Tracking these subtle lithography and manufacturer differences remains a primary focus for collectors specializing in Midwestern brewing heritage.
