Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Extra Dry Chicago Can

Drewrys Extra Dry Beer featuring the Chicago, Illinois mandatory is a notable favorite among breweriana enthusiasts. While the vast majority of Drewrys cans were distributed from the brewery's primary operations in South Bend, Indiana, cans bearing the Drewrys Ltd. Chicago address represent a significantly harder-to-find regional run that stands out in midwestern collections.

The label showcases Drewrys' signature Canadian Mountie illustration alongside the classic shield insignia, an homage to the brand's historic origins in Canada prior to its expansion across the American Midwest. The bold graphic layout and distinct shield emblem make the can an iconic example of mid-century commercial brewery artwork.

One famous piece of collector lore tied to the Chicago version involves a notable discovery during the 1970s, when a substantial cache of these cans was salvaged from an old tavern display in Chicago where they had been soldered together into a decorative pyramid.

Variations of the Chicago flat top exist, displaying slight text shifts and manufacturer stamps from different packaging suppliers such as the Continental Can Company and American Can Company.
