Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Chicago Drewrys Extra Dry Can

The Drewrys Extra Dry Beer can from the Chicago, Illinois plant is one of the more sought-after regional issues for collectors of the brand. While the company operated extensively out of South Bend, Indiana, examples carrying the Chicago mandatory line are considerably harder to locate than their Indiana counterparts.

The label artwork features the company's recognizable Canadian Mountie mascot, an enduring design element paying tribute to the brewer's historic roots in Winnipeg. These cans feature bold lettering against metallic accents, including satin silver finishes.

A famous piece of collector lore tied to the Chicago version stems from a cache recovered from a Chicago bar during the 1970s. The cans had previously been soldered together to form a towering display pyramid, and many specimens from that discovery carry notable solder remnants and heat marks from their time as a tavern centerpiece.

Collectors recognize multiple variations of this can, spanning different sports scene backdrops, subtle shifts in metallic paint, and stamps from different container manufacturers such as Continental Can Company and American Can Company.
