Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Extra Dry Chicago Flat Top

Originally founded in Canada before expanding across the American Midwest, Drewrys established a prominent regional footprint with manufacturing hubs in both Indiana and Illinois. The Drewrys Extra Dry flat top bearing the Chicago, Illinois brewery mandatory represents a prized piece of breweriana. While cans from the South Bend facility were distributed in high volumes, examples bearing the Chicago plant designation are noticeably more elusive and desirable among collectors.

Drewrys packaging frequently emphasized the brand's origins, featuring the recognizable Royal Canadian Mounted Police Mountie illustration alongside the prominent "Extra Dry" label graphics. The brewery became well known in the industry for utilizing eye-catching packaging concepts, producing thematic releases that incorporated astrological zodiac signs, character traits, and illustrated athletic silhouettes to draw consumer attention.

Collectors note several variations among Chicago Drewrys cans, encompassing subtle differences in metallic finishes, color schemes, and canning manufacturer markings. An intriguing piece of collector history tied to the Chicago variation involves a discovery in the 1970s, where a large promotional pyramid of Drewrys cans was found after having originally been assembled and displayed inside a local Chicago tavern. Today, this Chicago-labeled flat top remains an iconic artifact from the golden age of Midwestern regional brewing.
