Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Extra Dry Chicago Can

The Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can with the Chicago, Illinois brewery mandatory represents a standout piece of mid-century Midwestern brewing history. Drewrys Ltd. originated in Winnipeg, Canada, before establishing a substantial manufacturing presence in the United States, operating facilities in both South Bend, Indiana, and Chicago.

Brewery Heritage and Scarcity

While the vast majority of Drewrys cans found today carry the South Bend address, cans bearing the Chicago, Illinois imprint are considerably scarcer and sought after. Shorter production runs and concentrated distribution from the Chicago facility make this regional label variant far more elusive to locate.

Iconic Branding and Marketing

The can design prominently displays Drewrys' classic imagery, most famously the Canadian Mountie insignia that paid homage to the company's Canadian roots. Across its peak production era, Drewrys gained widespread recognition for creative consumer marketing, which included the famous slogan "More flavor; less filling; more fun!" and themed packaging sets featuring sports scenes and astrological signs.

Collector Lore and Variations

Several variations of this Chicago-produced flat top exist, exhibiting minor differences in factory labeling, color tones, and metallic accents. The Chicago cans also hold a notable place in breweriana lore: a substantial cache was famously discovered in a Chicago tavern during the 1970s, where they had originally been assembled into an elaborate pyramid display.
