Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Extra Dry Flat Top Can

Produced by Drewrys Ltd. U.S.A., Inc. in South Bend, Indiana, the Drewrys Extra Dry Beer flat top stands as a celebrated classic of mid-century Midwestern breweriana. The brand traced its roots back to Winnipeg, Manitoba, before establishing its primary American operations at the historic South Bend brewing facility.

The can design prominently highlights Drewrys' recognizable visual identity, centered around the iconic Canadian Mountie insignia and the bold Gothic lettering that came to define the brand. Drewrys made extensive use of its northern heritage across its packaging. During its peak production decades in South Bend, the brewery became famous among collectors for turning can bodies into engaging graphic canvases, distributing themed promotional sets featuring sports figures, horoscope signs, and face/character analyses.

Collectors track several variations of the Drewrys Extra Dry flat top. The South Bend plant utilized multiple can manufacturers, with American Can Company examples typically identifiable by a small plant designation mark alongside versions manufactured by other suppliers. Printing variations also exist in metallic finishes, banner shading, and mandatory tax or distributor markings tailored to specific states across the upper Midwest.

As South Bend served as the operational heart of the company throughout its most successful decades, this flat top remains a foundational centerpiece of Indiana brewing history.
