Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Green Sports Series Can

Produced by Drewry's Ltd. of South Bend, Indiana, this green flat top container was issued as part of the brewery's popular mid-century sports-themed packaging. During the 1950s, Drewrys marketed its Extra Dry Beer heavily toward active lifestyles and sports enthusiasts, decorating cans with stylized illustrations of various athletic activities.

Design and Features

The can features a bold green background populated by white silhouette figures engaged in classic sporting events. Visible across the side panel are detailed action poses, including a baseball batter poised at the plate, a runner mid-stride, a downhill skier maneuvering through snow, a basketball player setting up a pass, and a woman water skiing.

Manufactured in collaboration with the American Can Company, the container displays the trademarked "Keglined" insignia near the bottom seam, referencing the proprietary internal coating developed to protect the beer's flavor from interacting with the metal.

Collectibility and Variations

Drewrys produced sports cans across a spectrum of background colors and graphic arrangements, with variations in label framing, brewery mandatories, and manufacturer markings. While some editions utilized shield or oval borders for the central brand logo, the green series remains a staple among collectors who pursue complete sets of mid-century breweriana.
