Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Purple Sports Series Can

Produced by Drewrys Ltd. in South Bend, Indiana, this vintage flat top container was released as part of an innovative mid-century marketing strategy. During the 1950s, regional breweries frequently sought creative ways to stand out on grocery and liquor store shelves. To boost consumer interest and create fun conversational pieces for parties and gatherings, Drewrys introduced several colorful themed sets, including horoscope signs, facial character analysis, and athletic illustrations.

This particular version features a purple background accented with white silhouette figures representing popular American pastimes and athletic disciplines. Five stylized figures are depicted along the side of the container: a football player carrying the ball, a baseball batter poised at the plate, a downhill skier carving through snow, a basketball player handling a ball, and a water skier skimming across the water.

Manufactured by the American Can Company, the container displays the company's trademarked "Keglined" insignia along the lower seam alongside historic patent notices. These graphic set cans from Drewrys remain highly sought after by breweriana collectors who specialize in graphic sets and mid-century beverage design.
