Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Red Sports Flat Top Can

During the mid-1950s, Drewrys Ltd., U.S.A. of South Bend, Indiana, embraced themed multi-can sets as a promotional strategy to boost retail shelf appeal and encourage multipack purchases. Among the most famous of these promotional releases was a series of sports-themed cans featuring stylized white action silhouettes of athletes.

This particular red-paneled release highlights five distinct athletic figures depicted in mid-motion: a football player carrying the ball, a baseball batter poised at the plate, a downhill snow skier, a basketball player in a passing stance, and a waterskier in tow. The side paneling also incorporates the brewery's standard tagline, stating the beer was "Properly Aged in Brewery Vaults," alongside the American Can Company Keglined patent markings and trademark notice at the lower edge.

Drewrys issued their sports series across a variety of background color palettes, with variations printed featuring either white or silver silhouettes, as well as differing central label frame shapes distributed between their South Bend and Chicago facilities.
