Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Character Series 'Eyes' Can

During the mid-1950s, Drewry's Ltd. of South Bend, Indiana, rolled out several multi-design can sets designed to stimulate retail interest and make six-packs more engaging for social gatherings and parties. Alongside sports themes and astrology designs, the brewery released the popular "Your Character" series, which used lighthearted physiognomy—the practice of assessing personality traits from physical features—as a conversational packaging hook.

This specific red flat top panel features the "Your Character and your eyes" design. It illustrates three distinct eye styles—Large, Deep-Set, and Heavy Lids—accompanied by interpretations of each feature's meaning under the header "Which Eyes Are Yours?":

• Large: Noted as suggesting a person of sympathetic understanding.
• Deep-Set: Described as indicating a wide-awake, rational mind that is intelligent and quick to grasp details.
• Heavy Lids: Characterized as pointing to an imaginative, poetic nature searching for hidden truths.

Like other cans in the line, all of the personality assessments were phrased positively to flatter the drinker. The bottom edge displays the trademarked American Can Company "Keglined" oval logo, denoting the manufacturer's patented internal lining technology.
