Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys Character Series: Oval Face

During the 1950s, Drewrys Ltd. of South Bend, Indiana, rolled out a series of promotional can designs intended to capture consumer attention on store shelves and add entertainment value to social gatherings. Among these themed releases was the interactive "Your Character" series, which explored face reading, physical traits, and astrology, offering upbeat personality profiles based on various facial structures and features.

This purple-paneled can showcases the "Oval Face" trait beneath the banner "YOUR CHARACTER and your face." Accompanying stylized portraits of a woman and a man, the descriptive text outlines the perceived strengths of an oval face shape, highlighting a well-balanced disposition, sharp wit, keen perceptive abilities, and a natural inclination toward musical talents.

The series was part of a larger mid-century marketing push by Drewrys that included multi-colored sports silhouette sets and zodiac designs. Today, these physiognomy-themed cans remain popular conversation pieces among breweriana collectors who seek out the different character traits and color variations issued by the South Bend brewery.
