Drewrys Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Drewrys "Square Face" Character Can

During the mid-1950s, Drewry's Ltd., U.S.A. of South Bend, Indiana, launched a creative marketing initiative centered around themed, collectible can sets. Aimed at making packaged beer an engaging conversation piece for parties and social gatherings, the brewery rolled out several specialty graphic runs alongside its standard packaging, including sports themes, astrological horoscopes, and personality analyses.

This container belongs to Drewrys' "Your Character and your face" series, which applied the concepts of physiognomy—interpreting personal temperament through facial structures and facial features. The blue side panel highlights the Square Face, featuring minimalist line illustrations of a smiling man and woman set inside a dashed outline. Below the artwork, the panel provides a flattering character reading: "A square face indicates a person of discrimination, with rare attention to details. This man or woman is courageous, reliable, conscientious, loves the outdoors. Also energetic and ambitious, fond of excitement, must keep occupied constantly."

Like other novelty sets from Drewrys during this era, all personality profiles in the series were intentionally written with positive, uplifting traits. Known variations of the "Your Character" theme exist across different color schemes, facial shapes, and can manufacturer markings.
