Drewrys Malt Liquor Flat Top Can

Drewrys Chicago Malt Liquor Can

The Drewrys Malt Liquor flat top can holds a notable place in American breweriana, directly tied to the mid-century regional footprint of Drewrys Ltd. U.S.A. While Drewrys was primarily based in South Bend, Indiana, the company expanded its metropolitan presence by operating out of the historic Atlas Brewing Company facility in Chicago, Illinois. Cans bearing the Chicago brewery designation are particularly desirable to collectors due to their relative scarcity compared to the more ubiquitous South Bend issues.

Manufactured by the National Can Company, the steel container showcases bold mid-century malt liquor typography complemented by the classic Drewrys branding and Chicago mandatory statement. Known variations exist across production runs, showing subtle differences in mandatory text placement and manufacturer side-panel lithography. As industry consolidation led Drewrys to close its Chicago canning operations, containers bearing this specific city credit remain significant artifacts of Chicago's post-war brewing history.
