Du Bois Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Du Bois Premium Tab Top Beer Can

The Du Bois Premium Beer 12-ounce tab top can is a straight-steel container defined by its rich metallic gold finish. The face of the can features a large white oval bordered by fine concentric accent rings, framing an ornate heraldic crest that includes a knight's helmet and a lion rampant shield. Flowing script lettering presents "Du Bois Premium" centered directly above "BEER," while the bottom of the can underscores the brand's positioning with the cursive declaration "Finest Quality."

Du Bois Premium was marketed as a premier lager designed to compete directly against rival regional and national brands. Positioned as an upscale choice for consumers, advertising for the label consistently highlighted superior ingredients, craftsmanship, and pure brewing standards. Like many local offerings of the era, the brand enjoyed a dedicated regional following across central and western Pennsylvania before shifting market dynamics and corporate acquisitions eventually led to its retirement.

The Du Bois Brewing Company was founded in the late 1890s by German immigrant and experienced brewmaster Frank Hahne Sr. in Du Bois, Pennsylvania. Hahne chose the location specifically for its water supply, purchasing thousands of acres around the local reservoir to safeguard the watershed from industrial contamination. Du Bois Brewing grew into a regional powerhouse and famously defended its right to market "DuBois Budweiser" through decades of trademark litigation against Anheuser-Busch. The company survived Prohibition by producing near-beer and cereal beverages, receiving license G-2 to restart full commercial brewing immediately upon repeal in 1933. Following the founder's death, his son Frank Hahne Jr. ran the brewery until selling it to the Pittsburgh Brewing Company in 1967, with operations at the original Du Bois facility ending in the early 1970s.

For collectors of mid-century breweriana and Pennsylvania brewing history, this straight-steel tab top can serves as an enduring artifact of a historic regional operation during its final chapter of production.
