Duquesne Pilsener Zip Top Can

The Duquesne Pilsener Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can represents a pivotal chapter in Western Pennsylvania breweriana, produced by the Duquesne Brewing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Packaging Rivalry and Legal History

During the rise of pull-tab can designs, Pittsburgh served as an epicenter for fierce commercial competition between Duquesne and its primary cross-town rival, Pittsburgh Brewing Company. The transition to zip tops became newsworthy when Pittsburgh Brewing filed a lawsuit against Duquesne over the commercial use of the term "Snap Top" to market the convenience feature. This dispute highlighted how fiercely regional breweries contested packaging advancements in their home markets.
