Durst Premium Quality Beer Flat Top Can

Durst Premium Quality Flat Top

The Durst Premium Quality Beer flat top can represents a notable piece of mid-century packaging history from the Atlantic Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois. Atlantic distributed Durst featuring bold typography, traditional crest iconography, and the prominent banner slogan proclaiming the brew as "Internationally Famous".

Brewery Distribution and Regional Connections

During this era of American brewing, brand licensing and regional contract packaging were common practices. The Durst label was utilized not only by Atlantic Brewing Company in Chicago but also through related brewing networks and corporate aliases connected to Bohemian Breweries in the Pacific Northwest. Because the brand appeared in multiple markets, containers bearing the Chicago, Illinois mandatory text are sought out by collectors specializing in Midwest and Chicago-specific breweriana to distinguish them from West Coast releases.

Packaging and Label Variations

Containers for the Chicago canning runs were produced by major metal can manufacturers, including Continental Can Company and National Can Company. Collectors catalog several variations across these production runs. Noted differences include the color treatment of the "Premium Quality" lettering, which appears in bright yellow on some cans and metallic gold on others. Additional variations involve differences in manufacturer seam markings, city mandatory text arrangements, and top lid stampings created to comply with state-level alcohol content disclosure regulations.
