Eastern Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Eastern Premium Beer Flat Top

The Eastern Premium Beer flat top can is a notable collectible produced by the historic Atlas Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois. Atlas, a prominent Chicago brewing establishment, issued this regional brand as part of its mid-century portfolio of packaged canned beers.

Design and Collector Details

The graphic layout of the can features bold mid-century typography highlighting the Eastern Premium label alongside traditional brewing iconography and sharp graphic framing. Lithographed on steel by major manufacturers of the era, including the National Can Company, the label was designed to stand out in refrigerated retail displays.

Variations of the can exist and are well-documented among breweriana collectors. Differences between known examples include variations in trim coloring, with examples found featuring metallic gold trim as well as metallic silver trim. Collectors also note differences in the mandatory side panel text, where slight changes occur in the phrasing of brewery statements and canning credits attributing the brand to Atlas Brewing Company.

Because Atlas Brewing Company produced a wide array of house brands and contract labels throughout its operations in Chicago, the Eastern Premium flat top serves as a classic artifact of the city's storied industrial brewing heritage.
