Eastside Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Eastside Lager from Pabst L.A.

The Eastside Lager Beer 12-ounce tab top represents a key chapter in Southern California brewing history. Originally developed by the Los Angeles Brewing Company—founded in 1897 and later steered to prominence by German-born brewmaster George Zobelein—Eastside established itself as one of the most prominent regional beer brands in the American West.

Following World War II, Milwaukee-based brewing giant Pabst Brewing Company expanded westward to establish a strong presence on the Pacific Coast. Rather than building an entirely new plant from scratch, Pabst acquired the historic Los Angeles Brewing Company facility on North Main Street along the Los Angeles River. Recognizing the tremendous local loyalty that Angelenos had developed for the Eastside name over several decades, Pabst chose to keep the brand active alongside its flagship national labels.

This can was filled and packaged at Pabst's Los Angeles plant, a landmark industrial site famous for its massive neon signage visible from the Golden State Freeway. The brewery remained a vital hub of regional production until operations ceased at the facility, after which the property found second life as the renowned Brewery Arts Complex in Lincoln Heights.

Collectors recognize variations of this Eastside can, featuring minor differences in text placement, mandatory brewer statements, and manufacturing marks from different can suppliers. Its clean mid-century trade dress retains the familiar Eastside identity adapted to the era of Pabst's West Coast brewing operations.
