Edelweiss Light Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Drewrys Edelweiss Light Beer Can

The Edelweiss Light Beer 12 oz tab top can represents a notable chapter in Midwestern brewing history. Originally the flagship label of the Peter Schoenhofen Brewing Company in Chicago, the Edelweiss brand was eventually absorbed and packaged by Drewrys Ltd. U.S.A., Inc. at its central operations in South Bend, Indiana.

Drewrys operated out of the historic Muessel Brewing complex in South Bend and expanded into one of the largest regional brewing operations in the United States. Following mid-century industry consolidation, Drewrys maintained production of several legacy Midwest labels, utilizing major suppliers like the National Can Company to produce containers for brands such as Edelweiss.

The label design features the signature alpine edelweiss floral motif set alongside bold script and traditional branding, updated to include the South Bend, Indiana brewery mandatory. For breweriana historians, the can serves as a tangible record of the transitional era when classic pre-Prohibition metropolitan labels were integrated into large regional manufacturing networks.

Collectors document variations across production runs, noting subtle distinctions in top lid configurations, opening mechanisms, and manufacturer lithography markings. The Drewrys-produced Edelweiss can remains a staple among collectors specializing in Indiana brewing history, legacy Chicago trademarks, and mid-century graphic packaging.
