Einbock Bock 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Maier Einbock Bock Can Overview

Produced by the Maier Brewing Company in Los Angeles, California, the Einbock Bock 12 oz tab top can is a notable artifact from Southern California's brewing heritage. While Maier was widely known for its high-volume flagship brands like Brew 102, the brewery maintained an extensive portfolio of regional, contract, and specialty seasonal labels to compete across West Coast markets.

Background and Design

Bock beers served as traditional seasonal releases, brewed for spring distribution rather than year-round production. Consequently, packaging runs for labels like Einbock were produced in considerably smaller quantities than standard pale lagers. The Einbock Bock can features an eye-catching green background accented by bold bock typography and classic decorative elements designed for prominent display on supermarket and package store shelves.

Production Variations and Test Cans

Collectors recognize variations across production batches of the Einbock Bock can. These include variations in the background green coloration, spanning duller green to brighter green tones, alongside manufacturing differences in the can seam construction, such as glued versus soldered seams.

Maier also developed test cans for the Einbock brand, including versions printed with promotional pricing slogans such as "6 for $1.09" directly on the label. These factory test cans were generated to evaluate retail appeal and promotional strategies before standard distribution runs.

Collectibility

Because seasonal bock cans represented a fraction of Maier's overall output compared to their everyday lagers, the Einbock Bock tab top remains a sought-after piece for collectors focused on Los Angeles breweries and West Coast regional beer packaging.
