Encore Brewmaster's Private Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Jos. Schlitz Encore Beer Can

The Encore Brewmaster's Private Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can represents a notable chapter in the packaging history of the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Marketed under the tagline designating it as the brewmaster's private recipe, Encore was introduced by Schlitz as an upscale offering aimed at expanding its brand portfolio during a pivotal era of national competition.

Design and Visual Appeal

The can is recognized among breweriana enthusiasts for its ornate, premium graphic presentation. Moving away from the standard branding used for mainstream flagship lagers of the era, the Encore design incorporates an elaborate heraldic motif. The centerpiece of the layout features a detailed crest flanked by a lion and a unicorn, referencing European brewing heritage and prestige. Set against polished paneling with metallic and gold accents, the bold yet sophisticated "Encore" script creates a distinctive mid-century aesthetic that stands out on collector shelves.

Collector Significance and Variations

For collectors of classic brewing memorabilia, the Encore tab top provides an intriguing look at Schlitz's nationwide operations. Over the course of its packaging lifespan, several manufacturing variations emerged that draw interest from specialized collectors. These variations include differences in background metallic sheen as well as varied mandatory text configurations printed near the seam, reflecting the different brewery city listings where Jos. Schlitz operated packaging facilities across the United States.

Because Encore had a relatively brief presence in the market compared to long-running staples like Old Milwaukee or the primary Schlitz label, this tab top can remains a prized find for those specializing in Wisconsin brewing history and vintage graphic design.
