Esslinger Parti Quiz Philadelphia's Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Esslinger's Parti Quiz Trivia Can

Introduced by Esslinger's Inc. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Parti Quiz "Philadelphia's Premium Beer" can remains one of the most celebrated marketing concepts in breweriana history. Facing intense competition in the mid-twentieth-century Philadelphia brewing scene, Esslinger's devised an interactive packaging concept designed to capture consumer attention and spark conversation at social gatherings.

Dubbed "Facts for Fun," the body of the can is covered in short general trivia statements and historical tidbits printed in horizontal rows. Decades before trivia board games became a staple of popular culture, these cans served as built-in icebreakers, encouraging patrons to test each other's knowledge over a drink.

The series is renowned in the collecting community for its extensive variety. Esslinger's issued the Parti Quiz design across a diverse spectrum of background colors—including shades of red, blue, green, orange, bronze, silver, purple, and pink—as well as multi-colored banding and varied lettering configurations. Several prominent can manufacturers produced the containers for the brewery, yielding distinct differences in manufacturer markings, text size, and layout formatting across production runs. Esslinger's even incorporated the quiz design into special releases, including seasonal Bock beer. The broad assortment of trivia combinations and vibrant color schemes makes the Parti Quiz series a standout centerpiece in vintage breweriana.
