Esslinger's Premium Beer Cone Top Can

Esslinger's Premium Cone Top Can

Produced by Esslinger's, Inc. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Esslinger's Premium Beer cone top can represents a classic piece of Mid-Atlantic brewing history. Headquartered in Philadelphia's historic Callowhill brewing district, Esslinger's was renowned for its eye-catching packaging and memorable advertising.

Graphic Design and the Mascot

The defining feature of the Esslinger's Premium Beer cone top is its vibrant lithography, often highlighted by rich metallic tones and bold lettering. Central to the brewery's identity was its beloved mascot, widely known among collectors as the "Little Man" or "King Pin". Depicting a cheerful, tuxedo-clad waiter carrying a serving tray, this character became an enduring symbol of the Philadelphia brand and a standout element across the company's breweriana lineup.

Collector Notes and Variations

These cans were manufactured by major container producers such as the American Can Company and Crown Cork & Seal. Collectors recognize variations across the production lifespan of the label. Notable design shifts include examples bearing the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) mandatory statement, as well as subsequent versions that omitted the text following changes to federal regulations. Additional variations exist with subtle alterations in brewery typography, side panel mandatory text, and bottom rim profiles.

Because of its dynamic waiter imagery and deep regional ties to Philadelphia's brewing past, the Esslinger's Premium Beer cone top remains a sought-after staple for can collectors.
