Falstaff Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Falstaff Fort Wayne Tab Top Can

The Falstaff Beer 12 oz tab top can represents a significant chapter in Midwestern brewing history, originating from the Falstaff Brewing Corporation's facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Designated as Plant #7 within the company's manufacturing footprint, the site was established after Falstaff acquired the historic Berghoff Brewing Company facility on Grant Avenue. The Fort Wayne plant became a central canning and distribution hub and holds a notable place in breweriana lore as the final operational brewery under the Falstaff banner, outlasting even the company's flagship St. Louis headquarters.

Design and Graphics

The can features Falstaff's signature heraldic shield crest, set against a classic red, white, and metallic background. Emblazoned with bold brand lettering and crisp label iconography, the design was engineered for immediate shelf recognition during the brand's expansive multi-city era. Mandatory brewery text printed along the rim or side seam explicitly identifies Fort Wayne, anchoring the can to Indiana's rich brewing heritage.

Collector Notes & Variations

For regional breweriana collectors, the Fort Wayne designation holds enduring appeal. Label and can specialists track several known variations across production batches, which include:

• Mandatory Text Listings: Packaging displaying Fort Wayne as a solitary brewery address versus versions featuring a multi-city roster of Falstaff brewing locations.
• Manufacturing Codes: Differences in canning company seam stamps, bottom profiles, and top lid stampings.
• Regulatory Wording: Subtle shifts in statutory tax disclaimers and trade copy across manufacturing runs.

Because Fort Wayne served as the company's last active production hub, cans bearing this plant mandatory are widely collected by those specializing in Great Lakes brewing history and mid-century national brands.
