Falstaff Beer 15 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can

San Jose Falstaff 15 Oz Tab Top

The Falstaff 15-ounce tab top can issued from San Jose, California, holds a prominent place in regional breweriana history. While 12-ounce containers were the standard nationwide, 15-ounce cans were distributed primarily across western regional markets to cater to consumer demand for an intermediate volume between standard sizes and full pints.

This container was filled at Falstaff Brewing Corporation's Plant No. 6 in San Jose, a facility established after the company expanded to the West Coast by acquiring the historic Pacific Brewing and Malting Company property. West Coast cans from this plant frequently display multi-city mandatory text along the seam panels, listing San Jose alongside Falstaff's headquarters in St. Louis and its other branch plants across the country.

The label design features Falstaff's traditional heraldic shield, bold brand lettering, and classic red, gold, and white coloration. In promotional materials and grocery displays, these 15-ounce cans were often categorized as "King Size" offerings.

Among breweriana collectors, known variations exist that display differences in mandatory city lists, canning manufacturer marks, and rim configurations. The regional West Coast distribution and less common 15-ounce capacity make this San Jose Falstaff can an interesting artifact of post-war American brewing expansion.
