During periods of brand evolution and packaging modernization, major brewing operations regularly worked alongside container manufacturers, such as the Continental Can Company and the American Can Company, to evaluate prospective graphic schemes, trial coatings, and lithographic print fidelity before committing to broad commercial production.

Unlike standard production cans distributed through conventional retail channels, test cans were manufactured in limited trial batches for internal evaluation, executive review, and laboratory assessment. These prototype mockups allowed packaging engineers to test ink adherence, metallic sheens, and container durability under industrial line pressures.
